General Procedure and Guidelines
The Wes Hartley Memorial Shoot is a very simple, laid-back event in which we welcome all that have a muzzleloader that meets the simple requirements as set forth by the Rules Page. We strongly encourage you to Contact us if you have any reservations, questions, comments, or concerns. Here is a list of the Procedure of the Shoot for your convenience.
Procedure: Registration, Practice, 10 Individual Relays, Results, and Prizes.
Upon arrival, feel free to acquaint yourself with everyone, especially Chief Range Officer, Colton Fleetwood, as he can assist you and answer any questions you may have.
Feel free to set up your Spotter Target downrange. You may place it anywhere you would like in front of the backer-boards. It is possible to have a similar Spotter as another competitor, therefore we suggest that you have your name somewhere on the Spotter.
You will find that ground cover (tarp) and chunks and provided, but feel free to bring your own as it allows us to facilitate more shooters. However, in no way, shape, or form are you require to bring your own! In 55 years, the shoot has never been canceled, therefore we will shoot rain or shine. There is no loading cover on the range, therefore if inclement weather is an issue, be prepared to bring your own cover, ie. Pop Up Tent, or face the elements. Please note, if it is raining, but an opportunity without rain may occur within a reasonable amount of time from the start time of 9:00 a.m., we will delay the start.
Registration will begin around 8:30 a.m. with a match fee of $30 for adults, and Juniors (16 or younger) are $20. Beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m., the Chief Range Officer will call for practice to begin that will last for 30 minutes. During Practice, you may fire as many shots as you would like in the allotted 30 minutes. After time is up, the Chief Range Officer will call to close the firing line for practice.
Once practice concludes, the match will begin. The Chief Range Officer will call for the 1st Relay targets to be posted downrange. After all targets are posted, everyone is back, and the line is clear, the Chief Range Officer will call the firing line open for Target #1. This process will repeat for each relay until all 10 targets have been shot. **If at any time your rifle malfunctions, please remove it from the chunk (firing position), keep the muzzle point in the air, and address the Chief Range Officer with your problem. We can take all the time needed to fix any problem, as safety is most important to us.**
After all shots are fired, and targets are scored and scores are tabulated, the results will be announced and prizes will be given away. Even if you feel you didn't shoot well, please stay until the end as everyone that participates will receive a nice prize(s).
